Governmental Resources:

Federal Housing Administration
The FHA provides mortgage insurance on loans made by FHA-approved lenders in the US. The FHA web site provides a wealth of information for homeowners.

Department of Housing and Urban Development
HUD offers a multitude of services, and has approved counseling agencies nationwide for consumer assistance in foreclosure and default.

Department of Veterans Affairs
The VA provides care and services for American Veterans, including homeowner support for Veterans.

Freddie Mac
Freddie Mac purchases loans from lenders, banks and mortgage companies, and bundles them for sale to investors in what's known as the secondary market (investors on Wall Street).

Fannie Mae
Created in 1938 and similar to Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae also buys loans form lenders and bundles them for sale on the secondary market to investors.
